Laura Rich is a landscape artist based in Mere. She draws inspiration from our beautiful, rolling local countryside to create her work. We’ve been fans of her rich, dream-like landscapes for some time and were thrilled to be asked to work on a new website.

Our goal with this site was to create a layout that showcased the colour palette in each piece of art. This was partly achieved by ensuring that all surrounding elements in the layout were fairly muted. Text colours and supporting images were styled in such a way to not pull the viewer’s attention away.

The textures in the artwork, with colours built up in layers, lends itself perfectly to being a backdrop for header areas. We used this to our advantage in the design to pick out certain work and feature it below the branding and the navigation.

Technical Notes

We are always grateful for the work of great developers that contribute to the WordPress project. We’re using the Bootstrap framework for the theme.  Some of the plugins we’ve used for this project include Gravity Forms and Toolset. We’re also using a block plugin called Layout Grid which makes it easier to manage columns.
