Andrew Thompson is an experienced Director of Photography and Filmmaker. He has worked across the world on documentary, nature, travel, adventure, presenter-led series, expedition, natural history and drama projects.

Andrew approached Sugar to create an online portfolio of his amazing work. From the bright, vibrant colours captured for a travel programme, to the moody interior of a dark, dank prison in a drama each still or clip showcases the work that goes into art directing the “right look”.

The image galleries we created for these highlights are easy for a prospective commissioning editor to digest. By scrolling through the galleries they can easily see how Andrew has created a consistent look for a sequence, allowing different scenes to feel like one coherent piece. This aids the storytelling and worldbuilding that happens during a production.

The main challenge in this site was to create a minimal layout that allowed the work to shine. Muted tones of grey and off-white allow stills and clips to take centre stage. We’ve worked to create a simple navigation and page layout that allows visitors to view each project with minimum fuss and effort.

Technical Notes

From a technical point of view, we used Bootstrap for the framework, largely enabled by the Bootscore theme.  We continue to find this combination easy to manipulate and new updates are available in a timely manner.  We always make use of a number of great plugins to add extra functionality. For this project these included Gravity Forms and the Stackable blocks plugin.
